A few days a week, I have meetings in town or am recording my podcast. Either way, lunch is often quick, and is usually eaten somewhere like Inday, which has amazing Indian-inspired health food, or Hu Kitchen, a paleo restaurant. Both are downtown.

For dinner it might be Sushi Nakazawa near Greenwich Village. I have a Tito’s on the rocks with three olives or a martini, same way, followed by vegetables and some type of protein to keep it clean. I’m usually asleep by 11pm (though my husband says 10.30pm).

Favourite way to get to work?

I want to say walk or ride a bike but I’m always in a rush and often have so many things to bring with me. I do love having a driver for when I go into the city, because I like working in the back of the car.

Where do you take visiting friends?

If they’ve never been here, I’d suggest a double-decker bus to get a quick view of the city. Then, if it’s a nice day, a buggy ride in Central Park. We’d walk the High Line, have lunch at Cookshop or Friedman’s in Chelsea Market, drinks at Soho House and dinner at Balthazar.

Best spot for a 10am coffee?

Sant Ambroeus in SoHo. It’s a great place to see the cool crowd and eat awesome avocado toast.

Favourite cultural activity?

The Jewish Museum, then Russ & Daughters for brunch.

Nicest Sunday walk?

Definitely the High Line and the West Side Highway along the Hudson.

When getting around New York, don’t risk the ire of angry locals – always stay to the right of stairs or escalators. Michael Nagle

Best day trip from the CBD?

Sag Harbor in the Hamptons is one of my favourite spots: the mansions are awesome. I love the vibe of the small town. There’s Lulu’s Kitchen & Bar, and Sag Pizza has just opened. They have coal oven pizza and the crust is imported from Italy – crispy and thin.

In New York, you should never …

Stand on the left side of the escalator or stairs. If you do, you will get yelled at or pushed off.

Best place for an overseas escape?

I have a few: the Bahamas, hands down, for the white sand and turquoise waters; Paris for the culture and the food, especially steak tartare; London because I’m an obsessed Anglophile. My favourite restaurant there is Scott’s in Mayfair – amazing Dover sole and martinis.
