Manchester United have reportedly opened talks with Philippe Coutinho’s agent.
That’s according to reports from Spain, suggesting the Barcelona midfielder is a top transfer target for the Old Trafford club this January.
Coutinho has fallen down the pecking order at the Nou Camp since leaving Liverpool for Barcelona this time last year for £142million.
The Brazilian was signed to fill the shoes of Neymar but is struggling for form and has lost his place in the first team to the likes of Arthur and Arturo Vidal.
As a result the midfielder has been linked with a move away, and Premier League giants Manchester United are the side allegedly at the front of the queue to land him.
Mundo Deportivo are now reporting that the Red Devils have made contact with the Brazilian’s agent to sound him out over a possible transfer.
Barcelona are reported to be keen to keep hold of Coutinho, despite his dip in form.
Ernesto Valderde, who recently urged the former Liverpool star to improve, said: “When [Ousmane] Dembele wasn’t playing, everyone was asking about him.
“Now Coutinho isn’t playing and it’s the other way around. When a player isn’t playing or isn’t happy, he has to fight to revert the situation.”
